A few years ago I had a Huntsman spider who took up residence on my classroom roof and refused to leave (the kids named it Sparkles, and I had to try not to scream every time I caught sight of it).

This week in my classroom we're starting a unit on poetry, which I'm looking forward to doing with my K/1s. We've also got the firefighters coming out, and the kids are very excited about getting to squirt the fire hose. And, because we've only got six weeks left until our Summer holidays we'll be kicking off our Alphabet Countdown to Summer on Friday, which is really exciting.

Stef stefanie.galvin@gmail.com
Miss Galvin LearnsStefanie Galvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14420692082680553605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2850959266431562682.post-83200779972767827042013-11-09T17:26:18.266-05:002013-11-09T17:26:18.266-05:00We are focusing on Thanksgiving and traditions. The kids loved it, and I know spiders are creepy, but I kinda like them, lol. (I don't want them in my bed or anything though, lol) Anyway, this would be perfect for our Thanksgiving unit starting this week! Last week we did apples (in September we learn about community helpers, so I save apples for our fall theme). We painted with apples, did some sensory play with applesauce, counted apples, did a categories sort with apple pictures...next week we are all about leaves :) So excited to make leaf men again this year, they turned out so cute with my students last year!
You have also helped me come to the realization that this is the "Old Lady" book that I am missing! I have Leaves, but no Pie! Must correct this immediately! :)
Thanks!
Charlene
kachinan@hotmail.comCharliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18129220199048585275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2850959266431562682.post-8796121090212205362013-11-09T14:06:02.287-05:002013-11-09T14:06:02.287-05:00We just finished a unit on the Little Old Lady who...We just finished a unit on the Little Old Lady who swallowed some leaves. :) Our letter of the week is Letter O this week -- working on writing it, the sounds letter O makes, and words that start with letter O. We will be making an Ostrich craft, and eating O snacks. We are also learning about things that are same/different. And of course...Veteran's Day. Next two weeks will be Thanksgiving fun! :) Love your mini unit! Would be perfect for my Thanksgiving theme! This past week we studied nocturnal animals. I did a science lesson on echolocation that the kids really enjoyed. I blindfolded one of them (the bat) and put the rest in a circle around them. I then gave a student in the circle a squeak toy (the bug). The bat would beep and the bug would reply with a squeak. Using "echolocation", the bat would find the bug. They loved it! Jump Start has a catchy Echolocation Song on YouTube that I used with the lesson.

I would love to win this unit to use with my class this month. It looks great!
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11367089409559884049noreply@blogger.com
