Relay for Life and One More Day!! {freebie!!}

 

I am so excited to say that my little school raised $14,000 for Relay for Life this year!! It's exciting how much can be done when we all work together. The picture above is from survivor's lap during our Relay event we had Friday. That is a time for us to remember those who have passed with cancer and those who have fought cancer. It's awesome to have a principal who has such a wonderful vision for our school that far exceeds anything that I could even dream for our school.

 

This was a great 2nd to last day.

And that means tomorrow is our last day of school! I have no idea how it passed by so quickly!!

 

One thing that I like to give my students at the end of each year is a book of their writing. Each month I collect at least one writing sample, date stamp it and file it away. This really comes in hand during parent conferences to show growth and how the child is currently doing. At the end of the year, I print of my "Tales of Kindergarten" book cover on color paper, pull each child's writing samples and staple to create their book. I write their name on the front in Sharpie and place their picture on the front cover. They LOVE looking through their book and seeing how their writing has improved over the year {especially the ones who couldn't write their name at the beginning}.

Tooth Fairy {with a freebie} and Exciting News

This week instead of doing Valentine's Day like any normal kindergarten classroom, we did the Tooth Fairy and dental health instead (not all of my little friends celebrate holidays). We of course still had our party yesterday, but I try to make sure all of my little friends can participate in our weekly units. But it worked out wonderfully since someone came to talk to our kinders about dental health this week.

Little Bunny

This week we are on Spring Break!!! Thank goodness, we all needed a break. Last week we did the book "Little Bunny Foo Foo, the Real Story". Oh my, it is so cute! This book is a must have. It also is agreat way to teach inferences. :)
My little ones aboslutely loved it. They were so cute, they sang the song all day long, even in the hallways.

The Joy of St. Patrick's Day

We have been working so hard on St. Patrick's Day this week. My kiddos enjoyed "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover" and "The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever". We've also used this as an opportunity to talk about leprechauns and add some cute stuff in as well.

I really stumped them we when talked about luck and lucky objects. However, this encouraged them to go home and search for 4 leaf clovers. Oh my goodness, I had one little girl somehow bring in enough 4 leaf clovers for everyone. And another brought in 3 zippy bags of just plain clovers. My kiddos are so precious. I hope that activity at least gave them some much needed time with their family.

But, oh are they in for a treat when they come in tomorrow morning. :) We've had a leprechaun visit us this week. Man, is he sneaky (heehee). Chairs have been turned upside down, things in cubbies misplaced, and rugs turned over. But I don't quite have my first graders convinced that there really is a leprechaun running around our school (it's hard for me to keep my composure and be "surprised", I have as much fun with this as they do). So this is what my little darlings are going to see:

"Footprints" with gold glitter, rolos (for the gold) and green spearmint candies on every table.

We made a graph about our favorite holidays and St. Patrick's Day couldn't beat out Easter. Our little leprechaun wasn't happy about that. LOL

Tape over all of the cubbies  - just for fun.

I can't wait to see them in the morning. Their darling faces when they see this will make all the work worth it. They still need to believe in magic!

Alexander and the Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day = Awesomeness

This past week we did a unit on the Alexander book. The little ones LOVED it! We did everything from cause and effect to writing a letter to Alexander and telling him how to have a better day. We even ventured out and did an Australian animal study. The unit turned out really cute, and the little ones did such a great job! :)
